There may be many apprehensions in your mind, but training yorkie puppies at home is a fun-filled and lovable task. These dogs become the apple of one’s eyes when they come to a household for the first time. The best qualities of yorkie puppies are their cute looks and encapsulating eyes. They can actually enchant their owners to fall in love with them but the spell breaks when the pooch is misbehaving or making your house dirty. Suddenly, the whole experience turns sour and one can end up losing patience with the dog. But it should be understood, that just like kids, these puppies also need to be taught small little things that can make it easy to live with them.
One can easily start training yorkie puppies at home and make the whole experience of sharing life with them worth enjoying. A little bit of knowledge on how to proceed with training yorkie puppies and lots of love for the pooch, are the things required!
- Try to train your dog yourself. This would strengthen the bond between you and your dog and the dog will always listen to you in the future if he knows this from the training time.
- Do make sure that the puppy has completed 8 weeks at the time when you start training him. It is the right time for training yorkie puppies as at that time they have developed enough to be able to understand their master’s commands and also their anger.
- Try to remove the distractions from around the house when training yorkie puppies; if there are any kind of things that can pull their attention away from you, all your efforts can go in vain! These distractions include neighborhood dogs, kids, traffic etc.
- Let them develop a habit of earning rewards. The dog should know the difference between the times when his master is happy with him, or annoyed. Whenever he does the task as he has been instructed, give him treats or patting and cuddling and rebuke them (but not too strictly) when he goes wrong.
- Make a regular routine of the training sessions, such that the dog doesn’t forget last times lessons when you start interacting with him next. Also, tell him to repeat what was taught to him in the last session, so that you are sure that he hasn’t forgotten anything.
All these pointers for training yorkie puppies might give a hint of classroom training but one should try to take up the Montessori format. Playing with your dog as you are training him can help you be soft with him, teach him the required things and also enjoy the time spent!
